Welcome to the April 2025 issue of On The Fly

Dear Friends---

We're off to a strong start to the spring, with exciting progress on several behind-the-scenes initiatives and our continued focus on member engagement.

Our operating finances remain healthy, and we’ve just completed a significant milestone in upgrading parts of our fiscal infrastructure – a big step for the organization and an indicator of NGPA’s growth! We’re also making improvements to our IT systems to make it easier for volunteers to access resources and take full advantage of the tools available to them.

Equality Legal Action Fund is dedicated to fighting extremism and disinformation against educators, public officials, election officials, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and they are actively seeking plaintiffs to assist.

While the ELAF realizes many LGBTQ+ individuals might be used to this kind of harassment, it does not have to be tolerated and is not protected free speech. To qualify for ELAF services, the individual must be an educator, public/election official, or a member/ally of the LGBTQ+ community who has been accused of a crime that has no basis in fact, e.g. character defamation, or accused of being unfit in one’s profession. Said claim can be made either online, in person, or in some other public forum.

Once someone experiences defamation/harassment, there are a few things they can do to assist the ELAF in reviewing and preparing their case:

  • Do not engage in retaliatory behavior towards the individual(s) (e.g. do not dox, harass, or respond.)
  • Take a screenshot of the defamatory material, including the entire date, time and name of the person, or save the audio/video file, if one is available.
  • Send the screenshot or audio/video recording directly to the Equality Legal Action Fund ([email protected]) or fill out the Equality Legal Action Fund’s assistance form and upload the defamatory material.

All services are pro bono (i.e. free) and they are here to serve you whether it be with litigation or legal advice, as long community members meet the above criteria.

Are you interested in volunteering with the NGPA this year at EAA AirVenture? Booth volunteers will receive FREE AirVenture entry for days they work, as well as a Lunch/Snack at the Booth at no cost to the volunteer! There are 3 shifts per day lasting 2 hours each. Pick one, or give back the whole week! We can't wait to see you there!
