“Do you think we have enough?" a concerned member leaned in and asked me as we both looked upon the sea of those who attended our annual BBQ at this year's EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. Our view was in stark contrast to NGPA’s (then GPA) early days of meeting covertly on the show grounds near the FAA hangar – necessary not only to protect members’ identities, but also, because there was simply no other option.
While our group no longer meets covertly, I know there was a thought on the minds of many (me included) about whether the vibe was going to be any different this year. It was... we found out who our friends are.
Back again and better than ever! As recently as the early 2000's, NGPA members met at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh discreetly, with planned meetings at set times around the airport. Fast forward to 2025, and NGPA is out and proud at the world's largest airshow event!
The busy week featured new and returning events for our members, such as a Monday evening social with partner GoJet, a Thursday social with are partner Cirrus, Tuesday Campground social with PMHC, a successful NGPA booth, and-- despite a downpour that couldn't dampen our organization's spirit-- a remarkable NGPA BBQ powered by partner Avemco Insurance. We estimate over 300 members met and made quite a splash!
As one of NGPA's largest General Aviation events, we could not express our thanks enough to those who attended, supported, volunteered, and connected with us in Oshkosh! We're already looking forward to next summer!
Our flagship East Coast Event, the NGPA Cape Cod Classic, is celebrating 35 years! The CCC was NGPA's first ever signature annual event—a vibrant long-weekend celebrating aviation, inclusion, and community. Pilots, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts gather for fun, networking, and unforgettable memories. It’s a unique blend of industry and community spirit set against the backdrop of one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly destinations in the country.

Whether it's your first medical exam or your 40th, scheduling an appointment with an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) can be a stressful experience. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, these worries can be compounded by uncertainly surrounding medications, HRT, mental health, gender identity and pronouns, among dozens of other concerns unique to our community.
Did you know that the NGPA has resources to help making finding an LGBTQ+ friendly AME a little easier? Our AME directory, a crowd-sourced list of AMEs from across the country, can help you have peace-of-mind when walking in to your appointment that your examiner will be familiar with, and supportive of, the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. You can filter results to find what you are looking for: HIMS program doctors, HIV-familiar, HRT-familiar, and many more. You can also view reviews of AMEs in the database written by members like you! We also invite our members to add their own examiners to the list so we can keep growing!

Join us again at NGPA's 2025 Aviation Inclusion Summit presented by Piedmont Airlines, a dynamic forum dedicated to fostering discussions on inclusion and diversity within the aviation industry. With a special emphasis on how inclusion contributes to safety, this summit offers an engaging lineup of keynote sessions, breakouts, and panels covering a diverse range of topics.
Following the Aviation Inclusion Summit, we'll again be hosting the Student Summit in Washington, D.C., designed to empower our student members to develop as a leader on campus, and throughout the aviation industry! Workshops will cover various topics, including: interview prep, financial and scholarship resources, mental health resources, mentorship building, and more!
