Embracing Pride: A Call to Advocate for the Underdog

Every year in June, the LGBTQ+ community and its allies come together to celebrate pride, honoring those who blazed a trail for the gay liberation movement. What originated as a police clash at a gay bar in New York City has blossomed into a global phenomenon, featuring parades, festivals, and a sense of solidarity centered around LGBTQ+ culture, rights, and, above all, pride.

Hello hello! Happy first day of summer! It’s that time of year—pride is in the air! Hopefully, you’ve gotten out and enjoyed a pride event as the festivities make their way through. This is one of our favorite times of the year because we celebrate who we are as a community through these events, whether spending time with friends/family at a parade, festival, drag show, or even outside around a fire. June is our month to come together to celebrate how far we’ve come, talk about how to progress, and make plans for our future as a community.  

Happy Pride Month, Everyone!! Chapters across NGPA have been letting their sparkle shine by celebrating Pride and Building, Supporting, and Uniting the LGBTQ Aviation Community! 

NGPA Ohio kicked off Pride with get togethers in Cleveland and Columbus! Other chapters participated in Pride Parades and social events like Wasatch Wings in SLC, Gotham City Flyers in NYC, Stick and Rudder in ATL, Out on The Runway in DC, and Gulf Coast Flyers attended Pride Night at a Houston Astros Game. Our local chapters, led by Local Chapter Directors, are where members of NGPA have the most interaction with each other and we are tickled pink that chapters are so active! 

 

The summer event of the season is here again! NGPA is proud to host the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 Hanger BBQ on July 28th 2023! Come join friends old and new for food, drinks, and fun times at one of the world's largest aviation events! Registration is now open at the link below. Campsites are also currently available for reservation from now until July 2nd. Late registration is open from July 3rd-July 14th. We look forward to seeing you there!
