Message from the Executive Director March 2024

Friends,

March is Women’s History Month - a time to recognize all the amazing women who’ve shaped history, especially in the world of aviation. From the daring adventures of Amelia Earhart & Bessie Coleman, to those within our own ranks paving the way for future women aviators, Women’s History Month honors the incredible contributions of women throughout our shared history.

Just last month in Palm Springs, we had a chance to hear 3 NGPA members share how they are pioneers of their own: Captain M’lis Ward – the first African American woman to become Captain for any US commercial airline; Captain Kathi Durst – the first woman in fleet management for AA, and first woman Chief Pilot of DFW; and Chief Tammy Binns – the first black woman to act as Chief Pilot for AA. These are just a few of the inspiring women trailblazers within our ranks!

NGPA’s Women’s Committee is gearing up to attend Women in Aviation’s annual conference later this week! Be sure to stop by and say “hello” at the booth, and don’t miss out on Friday night’s social sponsored by JSX.

March is also home to National LGBTQ+ Health Awareness Week. Taking care of our health should be a top priority. In recognizing the importance of addressing the unique health needs of LGBTQ individuals, NGPA’s CARES team and Aeromedical Committee are here to help with anything from finding LGBTQ-friendly healthcare providers to offering support for mental health concerns. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out ([email protected]).

As we march through spring, let’s keep the celebration going, cheer on the extraordinary women in aviation, and take care of ourselves and each other. I hope to see many of you at the WAI conference!

With Pride,
Justin
