OTF August 2023 Message from the Executive Director

Greetings NGPA Family,

I hope summer has been treating you well, and that you’ve found time to take advantage of the many local chapter events held throughout the summer months. NGPA recently returned from Oshkosh, where our hardworking volunteers spent the week engaging with members & local attendees of EAA’s AirVenture. I’m excited to share a few highlights from the week…

In addition to our main booth, where members and locals alike gathered, NGPA’s Women’s Committee was invited to participate in WomenVenture, an area exclusively celebrating women’s involvement in aviation. Staffed by WC volunteers, this area offered an opportunity to engage with not only supporters of NGPA, but also served to connect with the local community and spread awareness of our organization and the members we serve.

Expanding on our outreach efforts, NGPA hosted an education forum where we spoke on allyship and what it looks like to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Attendance far exceeded initial expectations, with the audience proportionally represented by those familiar and unfamiliar with the LGBTQ+ community. Several in the audience remained after the forum to ask follow-up and clarifying questions. Overall, it was a significant leap in the direction towards inclusion, and we are very appreciative to EAA for agreeing to include NGPA’s proposed topic in the week’s educational program lineup.

GoJet (Platinum-Level Sponsor) and Cirrus each held socials for our members. Both were welcome opportunities to connect and unwind with fellow NGPA members attending the week-long airshow and reaffirm both companies’ commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. When not at a sponsored social, members found time to relax and enjoy a chef-prepared meal at NGPA’s new hospitality tent, an addition to the campsite setup. Featuring a “hotel lobby” atmosphere, the tent stood as a meeting spot not only for members, but also for our supporters staying nearby.

The highlight of the week’s events was our annual BBQ held at NGPA member and legacy supporter Jeff Montgomery's hangar. Despite Oshkosh’s infamous weather, nearly 200 were on site to enjoy the hallmark event of the week and enjoy a delicious meal provided by Avemco (Gold-Level Sponsor).

Special thanks to all our tireless volunteers who donated their time and energy to put on another immensely successful week in Oshkosh! Your hard work is appreciated and valued!

As summer draws to a close, I hope you can make it out to our final national event of the year – Cape Cod Classic in P-town next month (September)! Event registration is open now and filling fast. Be sure to register soon before tickets sell out.

I look forward to seeing you on the cape!

With Pride,
Justin
